Song to Woody - Bob Dylan
On the inside of an old paperback copy of Moby Dick in my parents’ house, these words are written on the inside of the cover: “jealousy is the beginning and the end of love.”
I have wondered for years if this is just something my mother jotted down while reading a book about whale hunting, but I’ve never asked her. And I would sort of like to write my Mom a song like “Song to Woody,” as a sort of tribute to the moment when she just absently scribbled down the words in some torn-up, ugly copy of Moby Dick—but my guitar is in the other room, and I’m just gonna sit here and listen to this.
