Carrie has been talking about author photos. The reason I mention this is because the other day I saw—not for the first time, mind you—a photo (an author photo) of Jennifer Egan. It got me thinking that Egan seems to prefer the left side of her face in photographs . A quick Google image search is less than conclusive, but, to my eye, suggestive. She has an identifiable way of turning and revealing the left side of her face in photos taken from straight-on. There are counter-examples. But the congruence of angle in the first two photos above is… a thing that I am commenting on in a way that feels a wee bit creepy.
Anyway, I also prefer the left side of my face! No real reason—except for it’s obvious overwhelming beauty when compared to the cratered wasteland of unsightly surgical scars and improvised tattoos that is the right side of my face. Behold the left side of my motherfucking face.
